Overview

The flyback converter is designed to step down a tractive system voltage of ~600V down to 12V. This is done primarily to power the High Voltage Indicator Light - ‣, which per EV.6.7 must be powered at all times (see rules clarification below for confirmation).

The solution for last year’s car was to use an Analog Devices DC2781A buck converter evaluation board. However, for this year in order to integrate this functionality onto the BBB this needed to be moved to an in-house design.

This design is primarily inspired by the example shown in the LT8316 datasheet (included below). It takes an input voltage of 50-600V and converts it down to a fixed 12V through a flyback (not buck) DC-DC converter w/ transformer.
